JC Penney, ModCloth, TJ Maxx & Target Haul

Hello everyone! I just returned from some afternoon shopping with my dad. I initially went out to buy hangers because I needed them and ended up purchasing some clothes as well. The ModCloth purchase was for Christmas and I didn't want to post just one thing. The TJ Maxx purchase is from a few weeks ago but I had to have the dress altered so it fit me before I took pictures of it. It was 8 or so inches too large and I loved the dress too much to pass it up. So since we're on the topic of TJ Maxx, let's start with it. Here is the beautiful dress I bought:

Warning: My Room is a MESS

So I can't say that I'm an entirely neat and organized person. As much as I try to be, buying organizational items and neatening things up via uniformity, it seems I simply cannot be perfectly neat. Now, what I'm about to show you is my room the messiest it has ever been. I have clothes on hangers, jeans folded in a pile, bookshelves and bagged bedding thrown haphazardly around, hampers of clean pajamas on the ledge of my bed frame, and speaking of beds....mine isn't made. This is all because I've been  searching through all my belongings to find the most important items to take with me when I move out next month. I have a good portion packed, but that left behind the mess that is as follows:

In Your Purse: Must Haves!

Hey everyone! So today I decided I would talk about things I think are essential to have in your purse. Let's face it, we all have a ton of crap in our purses we don't need (mine happens to be full of pointless Hello Kitty stuff I really like). So here is a short list of some things I believe everyone should carry in their purse.

  1. Wallet. All the important stuff is inside: IDs, debit/credit cards, cash, checks, gift cards, business cards, and frequent buyer cards.
  2. Cell phone. In case of an emergency, your wallet may not always be enough. Props to Verizon for having the best coverage.
  3. Nail file. This may not seem essential to some of you but if you're like me, your nails are long and they sometimes break when they get used too much. See "works at a computer all the time".
  4. A book. Because you never know when you'll need to chuck it at somebody pass the time. Alternatively, if you aren't the reading type but you are the listening type, an iPod or Zune with audio books. Or...just plain music.
  5. Keys. To your car, your house, to Candy Mountain. Don't want to get locked out of there...
  6. A pen and scrap piece of paper. For car accidents, evil scheming, or giving your number to cute guys or girls.
And that covers it. Not too shabby, eh? For some people this may not cover it, but planners and other items aren't always essential to everyone. Oh, and don't forget a bi-fold compact mirror for when you need to go into super secret spy mode and peek around corners.

Burlington Coat Factory Haul

Okay, so here is the late update of the Burlington Coat Factory purchases I made the other day. Let us begin with the shoes I bought. They are black suede and are wedges, which I adore. I'll have to buy some suede waterproofing spray so I can wear them this winter. They're simply adorable and were only $22.99!

What's In Store?

So I wanted to write a post about things I've been mulling over the last few weeks, ideas about what I'd like to post here for everyone to see. I keep seeing these room tours on YouTube and I feel like I should at the very least do a dorm tour, and then maybe later do a tour of my room at home. I also have a Burlington haul for you guys, which I'll post as soon as I find my camera. It isn't a particularly large haul, but man did I find some good stuff! I was thinking I might possibly start doing an outfit of the day post, once a week, or do a weekly post of a compilation of my favorite outfits of the week, and maybe include my least favorite outfit and ask for your input as to how I can change it for the better.

In other news, NaNoWriMo is going well, and this weekend I'm supposed to go to the mall with my friend so there could even be another haul post for you guys. For my birthday, I did receive the Love Kills Slowly perfume by Ed Hardy that I wanted. It smells heavenly! I've also been on a Hello Kitty kick lately so I might have to do a Hello Kitty wish list post, as well. Also, a friend of mine has been asking me to move in with her for a while now, so I might be moving out next semester sometime. I'll then have another room tour for you guys, but unfortunately I won't be able to paint the walls or anything, so I'll simply have to do my best to make it as much like home as possible. I go to look at the house--yes, HOUSE =)-- the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Expect plenty of updates before then.

I hope everyone is doing well! Talk to you all soon! =)

I Have Returned!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say I'm sorry for taking such a long time to update. I know my previous update wasn't in the best of spirits but that's how I've been these past few weeks, not in the best of spirits. School has been busy and I had some personal problems to deal with, and in a few weeks I'm going to embark on a journey only the truly gifted can reach the end of. This journey is called NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month. It takes place during the month of November and the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in only the month of November.

Yes, I know, I'm crazy, but if I can pull this off, I will achieve one of my personal goals, which is to finish a novel that I've begun. I have tons of stories lying around my computer and my father's computer, awaiting completion. This November I will write a brand new 50,000 words to a story idea I'm also using for my screenwriting class this semester and next semester in school. This will ensure a thorough tale, which I've entitled Lucidity.

My story is a dark fantasy about an artist who gets sucked into a war in the Greek Land of Dreams and must confront her tragic past in the face of a supernatural force threatening world destruction.

I created another blog which I plan to update daily and dedicate solely to NaNoWriMo, which can be found here. Any support you guys can give me would be much appreciated. Last year I didn't get any support and only reached 26,000 words. I'm hoping this year things will change. =)

One way you can help me is to send me letters, postcards, photos, post-its, or any other type of message you can think of (messages in bottles would be well-appreciated, too). Describe a dream you've had in a letter or send a photograph of your favorite hangout or a place you think is really cool. These letters and photographs will inspire me create one of the main cities in my story, set in the Greek Land of Dreams.

Please send them to:

I know the dangers of posting my home address so just to let you know, this is an office address, not my home address. I pick up my mail and packages from this address so no worries about the dangers of posting my information on the internet. I don't live nearby this building, but I have my mail delivered there and then saved for a once-a-week pick-up. If you'd like to become pen pals, I'd give you my home and/or dorm address, but that's a request for a separate post. =)

One final thing before I leave you is in regards to my craft show two weekends ago, October 9th. I sold five items, an equivalent to $13, followed by an additional 2 sales the following week for a total of $9. I didn't break even with the cost of the show, but I'm going to try again at this weekend's show. Wish me luck! Take care, everyone!

Fragrance I Want

Hello Ed Hardy for Women Eau de Parfum Spray. I would like you very much for my birthday. You cost $75 at Ulta when you're in a 3.4 ounce bottle and come with a free Ed Hardy tote bag and a free blue damask print weekender bag. Would you like to be my present? I'd very much like for you to be my present. Pretty please with cherries on top?

What's In My Bag?

Hi all! I hope you're doing well. So I've been meaning to do a "What's In Your Bag?" post for a while now, but never get around to doing it. My camera battery is seconds from death and I can't find the charger for the life of me. So here are some poor pictures of what is, in fact, inside my purse. Enjoy!

Dorm and School Supplies Shopping

I've been so excited since I found out who my roommate is, and so overwhelmed by the conclusion of my summer class and planning my work schedule around babysitting and a bajillion other situations and events, that I had to figure out when to go shopping for dorm and school supplies. I found time today and went with my father to WalMart, Dollar Tree, JoAnn's, and Target, and I decided to share my purchases with you guys who may have yet to go buy supplies for classes and dorms. Please keep in mind that I have yet to see what my dorm will look like so I kept my purchases to a minimum, getting only what I felt were the essentials. So, let's get started!

Amvets Discoveries!

So I embarked on an adventure to Amvets with my dad in search of display items for my upcoming craft shows. I made out quite well, finding not only a bunch of display items, but a ton of new crafting supplies! I found plastic canvas, a bag of new embroidery hoops, and a bag of multi-colored yarn skeins. Those will be put away into their respective homes. I discovered this amazing fabric, too! I'll hopefully have enough to use it as a tablecloth before I find something else to do with it.

Thrifty to Nifty: How To Make a Record Bowl

These record bowls are becoming more and more popular, so I decided I’d show you guys how to make a bunch of your own to use for, well, whatever you feel they can be used for. I’ll be selling most of mine for about three bucks and using the ones I don’t sell as displays for my goodies.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

A record

An oven-safe bowl (glass or metal)

A baking sheet

Easy to Make Stretch Bracelets

So in my frantic search of easy, inexpensive items to make to sell at the craft shows I’m in, I discovered the wonderful invention known as elastic. Elastic string, elastic bands, elastic straps, you name it. So I bought a roll of elastic string and some elastic band and dug through all my beads and buttons and crimps until I discovered the perfect, simple craft that is easy to make an inexpensive. Thus, this tutorial was born!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Elastic String

Colorful Beads or buttons

Scissors

2 Crimps with Loop on One End

Needle-nose pliers or some other kind of pliers

(Optional) Jump Ring

Movie: Skeletons

Title: Skeletons

Genre: Drama

Year Produced: 2009

Level of Education: College, Freshman Year

Summary: A girl wakes up in an unfamiliar basement, bound and gagged.

Additional Notes: This was my first group project. If I could go back and fix things like audio and certain shots, I would. Also, this has some swearing in it for those of you who may not be into curse words. Written by one of the members of my group, directed and edited mostly by me.

For the Win

Great news! I heard back from both craft show managers and I've been accepted into both shows! The first and more expensive of the two has an easier payment system. They gave me paperwork to fill out and asked for a check order, which I can definitely pay.

The second, however, expects me to use PayPal, which I have to use for Etsy but apparently never activated the account for. Plus, I don't have a credit card and my bank account is too depleted to pay the fee and also have enough to keep the account open, so I'll have to stop at the bank and deposit some money, or pay my dad cash and just put his credit card on file instead.

Am I the only person on the planet who likes having cash more than having a card? I find myself spending so much more with a card. With cash, I know I have exactly what I have, and that's it, so I spend it more wisely.

But anyways, I'll be able to pay for the first show, no problem. I'll send in their money order sometime this week or the beginning of next week. I believe their show is also October 9th, which is the closer of the two shows. The second show is October 23rd, and assuming I can figure this PayPal stuff out, I'll have two shows to attend! =)

I'm SO excited!!! And now I have to ask you guys again, same questions from the previous post. Does anyone have any display arrangement ideas? Like should I put place cards with the name of the item I'm selling in groups?

I was thinking I'd have a deal of some sort, like if a person spends more than 25 or 30 dollars, they'll get to pick a pair of earrings or a bracelet for free. And I was hoping I'd be able to stick a business card, a "Buy Handmade" pin, a hand-written Thank You card, and a piece of candy or cookie into little recycled PVC boxes to give out with each purchase. Does that sound like a good idea?

Wish me luck! More details to come! =)

Wish Me Luck!

So as you all are aware, I make jewelry, scarves, clothes, and other handmade goods to sell online at my Etsy shop. However, I have yet to sell anything despite how appealing I try to make my items seem, with their prices as low as they are and their pictures as professional as I attempt to make them.

I found the courage in myself to make business cards and pins, among other essentials for running a business, and today I finally found that courage again and went onto craigslist to search for churches hosting craft shows. I found two that were within 15 minutes of my house and sent e-mails to their managers. I have yet to hear back, but I'm hoping that slots will be available and that I'll be able to buy one. They are being held on two separate Saturdays in October.

This will be my first craft show and I'm looking forward to setting up a display and a table! =)

I may have to make a sign or have one made, and get a nice tablecloth for the table. I want to find some sort of jewelry display and maybe a rack for clothes. I might enlist my father to help me build an all-encompassing display for jewelry, then have some extension piece to hold scarves, belts, cowls, and shirts. Does anyone have any display arrangement ideas? Like should I put place cards with the name of the item I'm selling in groups?

A Darker, Cuter Sense of Fashion

So these past few days I've been in a sour mood. Combined with the fact that I've been wanting to do a post about the emo/scene fashion for a while, I figured now was the best possible time to write a post. Some background on my feelings about scene fashion include the following facts:

1. Scene is the most interesting style I've ever come across.
2. Scene fashion almost depresses me because the cutesy type of scene reminds me so much of childhood. Cutesy scene is the style of scene where the person is a blend of adorable (Hello Kitty, bows, tutus, etc.) and colorful with minimal piercings.

So onto the show!

Back to School Supplies: Wish List!

So despite the fact that I've begun summer class, I've hardly made a dent in my list of things to buy before the fall semester actually begins. I'm currently taking Creative Writing: Narrative Short Fiction and I absolutely LOVE the class and the professor. Becoming a novelist is one of my dreams, so taking a short story class is going to help improve my writing.

But that's beside the point. I previously did a Dorm Wish List post, and now I'm going to do a post about school supplies I really like that I want or need.

First Time Dormer: Wish List!

So this upcoming fall semester will be my first time dorming. I will be a sophomore, but due to the intensiveness of my chosen classes, my professors advised me to stay on campus to make working on projects and meeting with classmates an easier task. I
live about 30 minutes away from campus but I don't have my driver's license yet. I also work on campus, so on the days I don't have classes, coming to work will also be less difficult.
So as a first time dormer, I made a list of items I would like to take with me to the dorm, though realistically I'll only be buying storage items. It doesn't hurt to wish, though, does it? =)

From Junk to Jewelry

Hi everyone! Today I was hit with some serious inspiration and I decided I'd share with you some of the new jewelry I've created and posted in my shop. Links are attached to the photos so you can check out the descriptions or even purchase something, if you'd like. First, the necklaces.

Epic Fail of Not So Epic Proportions

I'm sure you guys remember my post, An Item For My Closet of Wanting. I promised I would mess around with some fabrics to try and create that Balmain skirt. Well, the good news is that it's possible (obviously). The bad news is that I couldn't get the pieces to stay together. Leather is a pain in the behind to sew! I can't honestly say I have a tutorial because the pieces I used produced something similar to the original picture, not the actual product. Therefore I'd like to say that the key here is LAYERS.

I started with one long layer of mesh from an old skirt, which gave me the shape I needed to build around. I cut away pieces of the mesh and pinned some sequined fabric and chains onto the material to build the bottom layer of the skirt, and for the top layer pinned the leather scraps with more monochrome fabrics. I figured it was just a puzzle, with pieces in need of being put together and pieces that needed to be cut away to reveal another puzzle altogether.

The final product looked kind of silly, but that's essentially how I would have created it had I possessed a working sewing machine capable of sewing leather. I was tempted to punch holes into the leather and sew it with strips of grey yarn or embroidery floss, but seeing as I wouldn't seriously be able to wear the skirt, I didn't do more than keep the pins in place and admire my first and only attempt.

I apologize for not taking any pictures, but if I try this again with a working machine and a smaller model, I will definitely record as much of the new attempt as I can. Have a great day!

What Makes Me Happy

So these past few days I've been miserable for reasons that don't belong on this blog. To cheer myself up and any of you guys who may be feeling down as well, I decided I'd post a bunch of things that make me happy. So let's begin with the following:

pen pal Pictures, Images and Photos

Getting letters! I have a few snail mail pen pals I LOVE hearing from. They send the coolest envelopes and we make the oddest letters. One time my Arizona pen pal wrote me a letter on cut up papers she put together to form a single page. Awesome! I always make little gifts for my pen pals, too. One day I'll write an entire letter in a mini notebook charm and send it to someone.

J.C. Penny Haul

Another shopping trip? So soon after the T.J. Maxx trip? Why, yes, yes indeed! I embarked on a journey to JCP intending to purchase bras, but became sidetracked by the fact that, oh, there was a summer sale where everything was 30-70% off. On the first floor, I discovered the basics, some 2 for $12 tees and tanks (total of $24):

T.J. Maxx Haul

So I've been surfing YouTube for some inspiration, mainly because I want to knit a ruffle scarf, and stumbled across some videos about store hauls. I had nothing better to do so I watched a few, and some really entertaining posters inspired me to talk about my most recent journey to T.J. Maxx. I hope this doesn't bore you to death, being my first haul display and all, along with the fact that I didn't buy very much.

My Current Etsy Clothing Obsession

Once again, the amazing talented creators on Etsy have blown my mind. I stumbled across Hopee's handmade goods while searching for some more indie inspiration. Yet again I have to refrain from posting dozens of photos and post only my favorites and hope you'll visit the link to her shop. Her prices are so reasonable, I'm in shock. Her items could definitely go for much more, in my opinion, they're so wonderful.
Cowl Neck Red and Gray Top
Ruffle and Bow Eco Friendly Tank Top, black / white
Romantic Asymmetry Draped Sleeve Top, teal / black

I am in love! Insert all of these into my Closet of Wanting!

Movie: All Torn Up

Title: All Torn Up

Genre: Experimental Drama

Year Produced: 2009

Level of Education: High School, Senior Year

Summary: Domestic violence is a problem our society has yet to eliminate. It hurts many parties —parents and children, wives and husbands— but the most painful part about it is when it occurs between siblings: brothers and sisters especially. We think our family members could never do something so horrible because they are supposed to love us and protect us. How do we fight back? How can we believe it will all be ok in the end? How can we still love the people who hurt us for no good reason?

Additional Notes: 16mm Black & White film.

Soundtrack: “Already Over” by Red

Etsy Finds of the Patchwork Persuasion

So what is this post about, you ask? Well, you shouldn’t really have to ask if you read the title, but that’s okay. We all have our goldfish moments. Trust me. I had to look at the title to remind myself what I was writing about. Har har. =)

I adore clothes put together like this. Patchwork pieces are so refreshing and can look retro but really are quite futuristic in my head. They can be so flattering and so fun, and are definitely conversation starters. The best part about them is how playful they can be. I have a mild obsession with children’s games and I’m openly envious that they have Arts & Crafts every day, which this style of clothing reminds me of.

The Song to Self-Improvement

I’m sure many of you have heard “Hook Me Up” by The Veronicas. My boyfriend is the reason why I enjoy their music and because of him, I have the inspiration to start a new chapter in my life and you guys have a new post full of sarcasm and unbridled joy to make your day. Oh, yes, my boyfriend listens to The Veronicas. No, he doesn’t hide that fact. And yes, he listens to Abba, as well. Sigh. People are so picky about men these days…

The meaning of this song can be debated as you wish, but I think this is one of the few songs off the album that isn’t brimming with sexual energy. Although, it can be argued that the music video contains what the lyrics are lacking.

Now, mind you, the first verse is really the only important one to this post, which is about starting over at a point in life when people, possessions, and lifestyle become tiresome and lack the true representation of the person.

I reached this point roughly one week and four days ago. During the past week, I’ve essentially felt like the first verse of the song:

“I’m tired of my life.
I feel so in between.
I’m sick of all my friends.
Girls can be so mean.
I feeling like throwing out
everything I wear.
Starting over new
‘cause I’m not even there.”

Music of the Industrial Variety

I am obsessed with "Dream Here (With Me)" by Oomph! right now. I love imagining a collection of my fashion and surrealism photos playing in a slideshow to this song. I adore Oomph! I decided I would take German this fall semester in college just because I love the way the lead singer, Dero, makes it sound. German bands are quite entertaining when you can’t understand a word they’re saying. I also love his casual style, sans piercings.

Do you guys have a song stuck in your head right now?

Fragrances

I suppose you could say some people are really into perfume. Everyone has their own obsession, and some happen to like the scents of dozens of bottles or like to smell different every day, every week, etc. I went to high school with a girl who collected perfumes, and to this day I have no idea how she afforded some of the bottles in her collection.

So this post will cover perfumes I own and then I’ll open up and ask you guys to share your favorite perfume(s). =)

Recipe: Waffles

“And in the mornin’, I’m makin’ WAFFLES!” I love Donkey, don’t you? I’m sure he’s never had this particular waffle recipe before, but he’d love it since it produces up to 24 waffles, all depending on how much you put into your waffle iron and what kind of waffle iron you have (square waffle iron, round waffle iron, little waffle iron, big waffle iron, etc.). My family and friends beg me to make this recipe on the weekends. What You’ll Need: 3 Cups All-Purpose Flour2 Tablespoons Baking Powder1/4 Teaspoon Salt2 Tablespoons Honey2 & 1/4 Cups Milk1/2 Cup & 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil3 Eggs, Yolks in One Bowl and Whites in Another Instructions: 1. In a mixing bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in your honey, milk, vegetable oil, and egg yolks until the batter is smooth. Make sure to collect all the lumped and loose ingredients around the edge of the bowl. 2. Preheat your waffle iron. 3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form and remain when you pull out the mixer, as if you were making meringue. This will take roughly two minutes on a low setting, a few minutes if by hand. Gently fold egg whites into the mixture using a rubber spatula. 4. Spray the heated waffle iron with non-stick spray or lightly coat in oil. Using a ladle, pour spoonfuls of batter onto the waffle iron, typically about 1/2 cup. Cook until golden. Cover with a towel to keep in heat when finished. Just a side note, these suckers can get pretty thick, up to about an inch and a quarter if the egg whites are added correctly. They are very yummy with sliced strawberries, a handful of blueberries, or a handful of blackberries. Add a teaspoon or two of syrup if you prefer that, or a tablespoon of whipped cream if that’s up your alley instead. Want to know what the best part about these waffles is? You can pop them in the toaster at a 3 or 4 level setting (that’s medium to medium-high for my toaster) and toast them up some other day if you have leftovers. They come out just as crispy and delicious as they are when fresh. I hope you enjoy making some! =)

An Item for My Closet of Wanting

I want this skirt. I was on gURL today and someone posted this exact picture, wanting to make a similar version of it. According to her, it’s a Balmain creation and that apparently means it’s bogus expensive. She asked for help so I offered as good a breakdown of the skirt as I could, and in doing so realized how much fun it would be to make. I’m off to tinker with some leather scraps I have and see if I can make it work in my size. If I can work in some tulle, I’ll head to the store and buy sequined fabric. Also, chainmail kits. I highly doubt they sell finished chainmail anywhere in my price range. Excited! And you bet if I can make this work, I’ll post a tutorial. =)

My Current Etsy Jewelry Obsession

As much as I’d love to just weigh down this post with a dozen or so photos of the amazing earrings and brooches StarBrightGirl creates, I realize providing a link and promising your enjoyment is a much better option. So I’ll show you a few pictures just to give you the idea of what incredible stuff she makes.

There are a whole bunch of pop culture jewelry and some cult classics stuff. This woman is my hero.

Music of the Indie Variety

I'd like for you to listen to the following song called "Le Disko" by Shiny Toy Guns.

The story behind this song’s discovery:

I used to work in the central library in my city where there was this one girl who had the oddest personality, but overall was very kind to me and my n00b self. Let’s call her Lizzie. Lizzie was into roller derby, the macabre, and all sorts of odd bands I had never heard of. Lizzie, my friends, was my first encounter with the hipster kind. One day while we were working diligently, as all librarians do when no one is there to watch them, Lizzie popped in a CD (yes, a CD, because we the librarians prefer vintage to iPods) which played the downright oddest songs I’d ever heard. And thanks to Lizzie, I now have one weird song I can power walk to and dance to when I’m feeling down. Ah, girl power at its strangest…

Movie: The Last Chip

Title: The Last Chip

Genre: Comedy

Year Produced: 2009

Level of Education: High School, Senior Year

Summary: A young couple is trapped in their school’s television studio after school has already ended. To make matters worse, they’re trapped on Valentine’s Day. A fight breaks out over who gets to eat the last chip.

Additional Notes: This was my dinner scene for the NOCTI exam I had to take to get my film/video/television certification added to my high school diploma. I passed the other part of the exam and now have a sticker on my diploma telling me I know enough to make a movie or work in television.

What Is Indie?

Let me start by saying I’m not trying to offend anyone who believes themselves to be indie. I know what the original indie style is and what it stands for. I find it amusing to Google “indie fashion” and see the trendicized version of indie versus the serious indies who are truly about steering clear of the mainstream. To me, there is nothing wrong with either version. This being said, I have some pictures I’d like to share of a few fashions I find quite attractive.

Let us begin with the following:

The Expected Introduction

Hello all! If you’re reading this, I’d like to give you a massive cyber hug because your support makes my day. Possibly my week. We’ll see. Anyway, on to a brief description of this blog so you know whether or not you’re wasting your time. I’ve provided what I will cover in list format because paragraphs can be so tedious. Sigh. The list:

  • movies, including my own productions and reviews of those out in theaters
  • fashion, including DIY tips, my own outfits, and trends/items I like
  • crafts, from tutorials to things I’d love to learn how to do
  • cooking and baking recipes, because I love to share
  • the occasional weight loss update, including health tidbits, fun exercises, and my goals
  • organizational tips, catered to deal with the messy person in each of us
  • alerts for sales at my online store

Fin! I’ve decided it would be more fun to take requests from people, so if you have a question or suggestion for a tutorial, post, recipe, etc., etc. do feel free to leave a comment or ask me. I’ll see what I can scrounge up. In the meantime, I’ll put it out there that if you follow me, I will return the favor. =) Now, this post has served its purpose and thus will conclude in 3…2…
